🇪🇸Alma Española
An Evening of Spanish Choral Music & Song
Bury Choral Society invites you to Alma Española — a vibrant evening celebrating the soul of Spanish music through choral works, song, and instrumental brilliance.
Set in the beautiful surroundings of St Margaret’s Church, this richly varied programme explores the colours, rhythms, and emotional depth of Spain’s musical heritage — from Renaissance devotion to 20th-century passion.
The concert features the powerful Romancero gitano by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, a dramatic and evocative setting of poetry by Federico García Lorca for choir and guitar — a centrepiece of the evening.
Operatic flair comes alive in the famous Toréador Song from Georges Bizet’s Carmen, while the programme also showcases the luminous sacred music of Tomás Luis de Victoria.
Instrumental highlights include guitar works by Isaac Albéniz and expressive piano music by Enrique Granados, alongside choral gems by Pau Casals and Ernesto Halffter.
With a compelling blend of choir, guitar, piano, and solo voice, Alma Española promises an evening full of warmth, drama, and unforgettable musical storytelling.
